A good aged care or retirement facility doesn’t just tick the box on function; aesthetics are essential too. Designing interiors using the right materials, creating well planned shared spaces and beautiful outdoor areas can go a long way towards encouraging positive social interactions, and making residents feel at home.
We are seeing a strong move towards more homely, residential looking products that are still very functional and fit for purpose in Aged Care and Retirement. We are ever evolving and are always looking at ways of making our existing product more homely looking and also developing a strong range of new products.
If you are planning a refurbishment of your facility, here are some design trends we are loving at the moment and which you can expect to see more of in 2017.
Trent towards more tactile, rustic textures such as wood and stone. Of course, timber is always a classic choice – think pergolas to create outdoor spaces, or timber accents for a welcoming warm interior.
Brass is out; copper, rose gold, silver and bronze are the hot new choices for 2017. Black aluminium is a sleek touch to doors and window frames and will continue to be popular.
CALM, COOLING COLOURS:
A palette tipped to be popular in 2017 taps into hues found in nature, including charcoals, greys, ivory, stone, taupes and rich blues and greens.
GREEN WALLS & VERTICAL GARDENS:
They’re both beautiful and calming to look at, but that’s not all – living green walls can help reduce temperature and noise and absorb carbon dioxide. There’s also a trend to ‘green up’ interiors with terrariums and carefully cultivated indoor plants.
BACK TO BASICS:
Design experts say our fast-paced lives have us craving simplicity more than ever which will be reflected in commercial refurbishments. The focus will be more on form and function, flexible layouts, and designing to ensure the end user will enjoy and live in the space.
